ABOUT
Joe Marchesi
(b. 1995 Providence, RI)
Joe is a self taught oil painter based in Providence, RI. Having never had formal acedemic practice in art, oil painting started as a quarantine hobby in 2020. Since then, he has developed a unique style of painting with the use of 'modified' (intentionally broken) wood panels. The goal with this altered medium is to explore themes of memory recollection and loss is his work. Joe creates negative spaces in his motifs in an attempt to capture what a fading or abandoned memory looks and feels like. He hopes to capture a vague familiarity in these scenes to combine comfort with a dreamlike uneasiness.
As time passes I always question how intact our own memories are. I consider whether or not we can fully trust our memories, as it is very possible for our minds to 'fill in the blanks' subconsciously.
